That's So Cringe, It's Hilarious (In a Way)
Sometimes you encounter situations so awful that you can't help but burst out chuckling. It's like your brain tries to understand the sheer extent of chaos and just gives up, opting for a weak, desperate giggle as a coping defense.
But then, you suddenly become aware that it's not really hilarious. It's just plain terrible. And the laughter you felt morphs into a groan.

Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?

Worst Day Ever
It all started with a case of uncontrollable hair. I couldn't make it to look right. As I was dashing out the door, I fell and spilled all over my new shoes. To make matters worse, I was completely behind schedule for work.

A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to throw your hands up.
